Restoration of Tensui Tub at Tenzo Shrine
Tokyo (Toshima Ward)
The vintage tensui tub, cast in the Edo period, had a large crack in the body.
Seven to eight layers of FRP were applied inside to reinforce the cracks. The cracks were heaped up in the way that they were not noticeable. In this way, the antique-style coloring gave a period look to the finish.
The cracks have been restored to the point that they are not visible at all. The shape is now almost the same as it was at the time of installation, and the aging paint has also been used to express the texture of the period.
